    Fishing tips

    • French River granite channels concentrate baitfish — target current breaks.
    • Walleye slot means you'll release most fish; barbless hooks speed the process.
    • Work the rocky drop-offs along the south shore early in the morning for smallmouth, then move into the weedy bays for pike as the day warms.
    • Access: Free municipal lot at the launch just past Science North.
