    About this water

    The main launch for southern Rice Lake — deep weed edges, walleye flats, and one of the best crappie fisheries in the Kawarthas.

    Shallow, warm south-central lake (max depth ~27 ft / 8 m) on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Weedy bays with good clarity outside spring runoff. FMZ 17.

    FMZ 17 regulations — Kawartha Lakes & Trent watershed

    The smallest FMZ, in southern Ontario. It includes the Kawartha Lakes, the Trent and Crowe River watersheds, and the eastern rivers and streams of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south (FMZ 20).

    Fishing tips

    • Kawarthas are shallow and weed-heavy — punch mats for summer largemouth.
    • Muskie love the Trent's weed edges and lock approaches.
    • Troll worm harnesses along the 12–18 ft weed edge for walleye at dusk. Crappie stack in the marina bays in early spring.
    • Access: Ample paved lot at the marina. Two-lane concrete ramp open 24/7. Daily launch fee ~$20; seasonal passes available.
