    About this water

    One of the best in-town shore fisheries in the Kawarthas — walk-in access to current-swept water right beside the lock.

    Fast-moving water through the lock and falls, with slack pockets on either side. FMZ 17.

    FMZ 17 regulations — Kawartha Lakes & Trent watershed

    The smallest FMZ, in southern Ontario. It includes the Kawartha Lakes, the Trent and Crowe River watersheds, and the eastern rivers and streams of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south (FMZ 20).

    Fishing tips

    • Kawarthas are shallow and weed-heavy — punch mats for summer largemouth.
    • Muskie love the Trent's weed edges and lock approaches.
    • Evening and after dark below the falls is the walleye window. Cast into the seam and let the jig swing through the current.
    • Access: Free public parking near the locks and in the downtown core.
