    About this water

    One of the biggest Kawartha lakes — open-water walleye trolling and a genuinely strong muskie population.

    Large Y-shaped lake roughly 25 km long, with open water and scattered weed beds. FMZ 17.

    The smallest FMZ, in southern Ontario. It includes the Kawartha Lakes, the Trent and Crowe River watersheds, and the eastern rivers and streams of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south (FMZ 20).

    Fishing tips

    • Kawarthas are shallow and weed-heavy — punch mats for summer largemouth.
    • Muskie love the Trent's weed edges and lock approaches.
    • Troll crankbaits along the main-lake weed line in summer, and pitch big bucktails at the cabbage beds for muskie in September.
