Kettle Lakes Provincial Park – Timmins

About this water

A cluster of 22 spring-fed kettle lakes east of Timmins, stocked with trout and ideal for canoe, kayak or float-tube anglers.

Dozens of small, clear glacial kettle lakes formed by retreating ice-age glaciers. Most are small and calm; Hughes Lake is the only lake in the park permitting motorboats. FMZ 8.

FMZ 8 regulations — Northeast Ontario — Cochrane, Timmins & Kirkland Lake

Northeast Ontario, with large river systems draining into the Arctic watershed and relatively small, shallow lakes. The Quebec border between Lake Temiskaming and James Bay forms its eastern boundary; it stretches north to the southern coast of James Bay and is bounded by FMZ 3 to the northeast, FMZ 7 to the west and FMZs 10, 11 and 12 to the south.

• Walleye: open all year on most waters; S-4/C-2.
• Northern pike: open all year; S-6/C-2.
• Brook trout: check individual waters for season and gear restrictions.

Fishing tips

• Tannin-stained water = bright and loud lures win; think firetiger and chartreuse.
• Post-spawn walleye stack in current seams below hydro dams.
• Trout hold near the cool spring seeps in summer — fish deeper mid-lake water once surface temperatures climb. Non-motorized lakes see the least pressure.
• Access: Day-use lot inside the park; a day pass is required.
