












About this water
One of the deepest lakes in Ontario, Lake Timiskaming offers excellent walleye fishing with far less pressure than southern waters. The Haileybury waterfront provides easy access.
Long, narrow, deep lake straddling the Ontario-Quebec border. Clear water with significant depth (up to 640 ft). Can be very windy.
FMZ 12 regulations — Ottawa River & Lake Temiskaming
A long, narrow zone along the Ontario–Quebec border. It includes the Ontario portions of Lake Temiskaming and the Ottawa River, plus the Madawaska and Mississippi Rivers upstream to the first dam. It is not a Georgian Bay zone.
- Walleye: 3rd Sat in May – March 1; S-4/C-2.
- Northern pike: open all year; S-6/C-2 (one over 86 cm).
- Lake trout: Jan 1 – Sept 30; S-2/C-1.
Water-specific exceptions at Lake Timiskaming – Haileybury
- Interprovincial water: Lake Timiskaming straddles the Ontario/Quebec line. Fish the Ontario side under FMZ 12 rules unless you also hold a Quebec licence.
Zone check: FMZ 12 set by review — Lake Timiskaming proper is FMZ 12; the mapped 11/12 boundary runs within a few hundred metres of the Haileybury access point. Reviewed 2026-08-12.

- Timiskaming's big-water walleye respond to trolled spinner rigs on wind-blown points.
- Massive shoreline drops — use quality electronics.
- Focus on the rocky shoals and points for walleye in spring. In summer, troll worm harnesses along the 20–30 ft contour. The Wabi River mouth is a walleye hotspot.
- Access: Free public launch at Haileybury marina. Ample trailer parking.
